If your mother in law is still smoking after being diagnosed with lung cancer, she probably has smoked for years and really doesn't care. Usually Pt's who have lung cancer expected the diagnosis for a long time before they went to the hospital to be diagnosed. The 5 year survival rate for a primary lung cancer is near zero. It usually spreads to the brain and liver 1st, then to the bones. I think she should enjoy every day as if it were her last. Stopping smoking now is not going to cure her. I would imagine she has less than a year.

It depends on how far the cancer has spread, among other things. My husband was diagnosed March 20Th He went Thur radiation chemo gamma knife procedure and took a drug called Trevar. He passed June 6Th. By the way, he had no symptoms and by the time it was diagnosed it was everywhere. One more thing, if it is terminal, let her smoke the damage is done and if she enjoys it so be it. Good luck

my father in law was diagnosed on the 2ND of march and he died on the 12Th of September, he was really weak towards the end. he was first told he had it in the lungs but they realized after awhile that it was pretty much everywhere, legs, spine, brain, shoulder, lungs, pancreas and throat. so he didn't have a hope in hell of fighting all that. if they caught it early with your mother in law and depending on how far it has spread you are really talking 50-50.

You know Lung cancer affects the lungs. In the lungs there is a tumor. But sometimes that tumor can press against the airways. This may cause it harder to breath. But this can also lead to the tumor pressing to hard and making the other lung collapse. Give her proper attention & care. It’s chilling really you do not relies.

She won't get better with the lung cancer. try and make her stop smoking. this might help and continue with the medication.

Another you can do is to Pray to GOD

Lung cancer is really dangerous disease for all, because they spreading in our body cell very fast, so they surviving rate are maximum 3 or 4 month. But most important to getting long surviving then quite smoking is really important for all.
