Default parents out there: how fast do burn injuries on your babies heal? - 12-15-2008, 06:27 PM

Four days ago my 3-month-old baby got scalded on his fist by hot tea (knocked over by my friend's toddler, I posted question on this). He is now getting his dressings changed every other day and the doctor has said it is a partial thickness burn/second degree burn. The area looked red and bled a little the last time it was checked (today). Even though he is bright and cheery as normal, both my husband and I feel sick to the stomach watching him wave his heavily bandaged fist. I can't believe how traumatized we are compared to how normally our son is acting - I am almost constantly weepy and worried and my husband is distracted and distant. I know many parents go through this and I'm loving him more than before to aid his healing process, but I think we both would feel so much better knowing he'd heal without a scar to remind us that we couldn't protect him enough. Does anyone know how soon he can heal, with minimal scar or none?

i know exactly how you feel but baby wont remember whats happened, babies heal at different rates, could be days or a few weeks, they have good skin so probably wont leave a scar at all, my son touched a relatives iron when he was 2, i felt guilty for a long long time because i was'nt there, but he doesnt remember, accidents happen. hope he gets better soon x

My sister got boiling hot water tipped on her back - had no shirt on at the time, she was little than, school aged though. There is no scar there now and looks fine. Give your little one a big hug for me, i can only imagine how you feel.
