Default What helps with burn injuries? - 12-13-2008, 03:01 PM

I burned my hand with scalding hot water a couple hours ago, and I was trying aloe and ice and cold water but none of it helps. in fact, the burning got worse. my entire hand is red, swollen and forming white blisters. is there any other ways of soothing the burn. I'm in a lot of pain. Or am I going to just have to wait it out? there's no one around to ask

they say that if you have a burn that is larger than a quarter (25cent coin) to go to the hospital. so i would go to the hospital, cause if the burns are bad, it WILL get infected if it is not treated properly. they'll perscribe you ointments to fix it.

No, there's really nothing else you can do except take some painkillers and run some cool water over it.If you have large blisters on your hand (larger than a nickel) you should go see a doctor first thing tomorrow because not only are they very painful (as I'm sure you know), but they don't heal very nicely on their own and they tend to scar badly.

You don't say how big the blisters are, but it will make no difference. If you go to a Doctor or Emergency Room at a Hospital, the only thing they will do is coat your hand with an antibiotic cream, then wrap it with bandage. Cold water is best for a burn if you can get to the water, and the way you are talking, this happened at home or someones house. The cold water would have kept it from blistering. I would continue with the cold water, then apply something like Neosporin all over the hand, then wrap it. What ever you do, later on, don't bust the blisters. That is your body's natural defense against burns, so let them bust on their own. The swelling will go down in a couple of days, if not, better see a Doctor. Like I said, when it feels hot, keep running the cold water over the hand, and not just for a minute. Several minutes, take it out from under the water after a minute, but put it back under, then so on until you reach about seven minutes. The longer the better. Best of luck to you young lady. After the blisters bust, you will see new skin under there.

Go to the ER if you can. if not i would try an over the counter sulfa cream. Its soothing, dont rub it in just apply it and the wrap the hand with guaze. Go to the ER. White blisters mean 3rd degree burn.
