To what extent can anxiety influence bowel movements? -
04-08-2009, 11:37 PM
I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and OCD a year and a half ago. About that time, my bowel habits began to change, and I began to experience significant fatigue. Specifically, I have experience alternating diarhrea and constipation, softer stools, and generally my stools have been narrower than usual. Occasionally I see mucus in my stools. My first thought was Colon Cancer, but I was wondering whether or not anxiety, or something like IBS can also cause weird bowel symptoms like the ones I have menntioned. By the way,I am a 28 year old male, and all my bloodwork is normal. I have seen a doctor about this and he did not seem overly alarmed, and said that he thought IBS was more likely than Colon Cancer given my age. Any thoughts? ------
