Default Can you start birth control without being on your period? - 01-20-2009, 08:18 AM

I had my period the beginning of this month, but I wanted to start using birth control in the next few days of possible..Is this bad, will this cause any major health concerns, and will the birth control actually be effective?(referring to the pill or patch)will the birth control still be effective in preventing pregnancy though?

Most doctors will tell you to wait until the end of your next period, just so you don't throw your cycle off track. But no, you won't cause any serious health problems.** It can take up to 2 or 3 months for the birth control to become effective. Didn't your doctor inform you of this? They totally should have.

it won't cause any health concerns unless u are a smoker over 35 then it could cause blood clots. the only thing that it would do is get your period messed up and what i mean is the time you started last month it won't be the same this month you will probably be a few days late or early never can tell.

you can start taking it when ever. you don't have to do the day one of your period start or the sunday after your period starts. those are just suggested start times cuz it supposedly makes it easier to keep track of taking the pill. there is no health risk or benefit of starting it on one day vs another.you can start taking it at any point.and some dr's say it is not effective until you take it for 1 month and others will say not to have unprotected sex for 3 months cuz thats how long it takes to become effective. THEY ARE JUST SAYING THAT TO COVER THEIR A.S.S!the info sheet that comes with the pill will tell you the truth which is that after you have taken it for 7 days straight and continue to take it it will be effective.so start taking it when ever you want, be sure to take it every day around the same time (if you forget to take one take it as soon as you remember), and it becomes effective after 7 days of taking it and the continued use of it.
