Default I think I have bipolar disorder and I don't know how to tell my mom? (10 points4best - 08-01-2009, 01:03 AM

I think I have bipolar disorder. I have all the symptoms... Sometimes I'm all hyper and everything then suddenly I'm all depressed for no good reason... I don't know how to tell my mom? I heard there's medicine it, and I'm pretty sure I need it. I'm 13.

Your hormones are raging right now. You're 13, give it a year and if things don't change, talk to your doctor about it during your annual physical. I felt the same, but I'm not bipolar.

You can't be diagnosed with Bipolar until you're 18 usually or early adulthood. just because you're body is changing so much right now at your age.

i am assuming you and your mom have a relationship that will allow you to communicate in the first place. i would ask her when it was just the two of you. "hey mom ever notice how sometimes i am real hyper and all then suddenly for no good reason i could be depressed?" "what do you think that might be cause i have an idea but i want to know yours first." then let her answer her opinion then tell her that you think you may be bi-polar, and why.
now bi-polar usually means you have periods of mania where you may be up and hyper for like 3-4 days in a row with no sleep and then you may be normal or you could be depressed. but now there is a type called rapid cycling where your highs lows and normals change very quickly and don't stay that way for as long as the old bi-polar time frames.
good luck i am sure you and her will come together on your thoughts.

HI,well seeing how you're only 13 years old,and you're hormones are totally out of control at this age.I'm guessing that you don't need to tell you're mother ANYTHING right now. What you need to do, is continue living you're life as a normal teenager.I simply do not understand why so many teenagers are so set on diagnosing themselves with some kind of mental disorder now-a-days.I mean come on..what's going on with you guys.Seems as though almost every teenager 'thinks' he/she MUST have either 'depression' 'anxiety' 'bi polar' 'ADD' or 'ADHD',it seems never ending. And the worst part of it all,is that none of you have even been DIAGNOSED! Just continue being a young teenager, and stop worrying so much, when it's most likely hormones,OK? You're now at the age when you're hormones are out of wacko, this IS 100% normal,OK? Just enjoy you're youth, the hormone years are pretty tough, that's a fact. But don't go and diagnose yourself with every single mental health disorder under the sun for goodness sake.Like I said...just enjoy you're youth and have the best time you possibly can while you're still young,OK? I wish you all the best.GOD BLESS.
