Default how can i help her with her asthma? - 11-17-2008, 07:52 PM

my friend has asthma. but not until she got bronchus has she started having asthma attack. i don't have asthma so i cant really tell u Wat it feels like but she has told me it feels like her throat closing up and she has to gasp for air. Apparently she has never had an asthma attack before because when she called me and told me she had had one she was hysterical. i have been doing some res each for her on asthma and some people said something about a peak flow and i asked her if she knew anything about it and she has no idea Wat it is. shes on medication for the bronchus and she hates it. Wat does she need to know and Wat does she need to do?

"my friend has asthma"
Wait the minute, how do you know it's asthma? Did a doctor diagnose her?
There are numbers of condition mimicking asthma. Such as panic attack, hyperventilation syndrome.
Asthma people usually have complains in the morning and cold weather.

"people said something about a peak flow"
I'm thinking about optometry. Usually used by monologistits diagnose lung capacity and function. Also to diagnose asthma.

Can buy a peak flow meter, but that's not going to solve anything. Your friend should go back to the doctor and describe her asthma attack to the doctor. Asthma and Bronchitis together are a bad combination. If this Asthma is something that is going to stick around (sometimes it doesn't) she needs to go to a doctor to get a prescription for an inhaler. The doctor will explain how to use one and when to. A Nebulizer machine has more of a lasting effect than a regular albatross inhaler and should be used when a regular inhaler just isn't doing the trick. If your friend doesn't get on some anti-bio tics for this she could do some bad damage to her lungs. If your medicine is in tablet form, and you don't like the taste, you could put it in some food then eat it to avoid the bad taste.

I've been through this a million times. When at times she cant breathe and is having a terrible time even getting words out an inhaler is the best choice. When she is crying and really freaked out it is best to calm her down, it seems like it is worse because it is scaring her. Its normal for this feeling because it can be a very scary feeling. An inhaler will seem like a salvation when not being able to breathe, it does really help but a lot of the reason they do help is making you slow down and breathe in the medication.
