Default Has anyone had an allergic reaction to wheat where they cough and their lungs start t - 09-11-2009, 04:24 PM

Serious answers would really be appreciated, I have this kind of reaction whenever I eat wheat and yet the allergy tests don't show that I am allergic to wheat. But when I eat wheat I start to cough so much that I start to choke and can't breathe. I have seen doctors about this and all they do is give me puffers to use which don't help. Thanks in advance!

An allergic reaction to wheat could be Celia disease. One of my husband's sisters has it and my husband also has a coughing reaction when he eats sandwiches and certain cereals. We went with splat bread and cereal and pasta. While we like the splat pasta and cereal flakes, the bread was kind of yucky. Also try rice alternatives. To learn more about Celia disease go to

Ive had that allergic reaction once but i think its the flavored chicken breading that got me... its like severe asthma ... i was treated with bedsideOdepules using nebulizer.
to prevent further allergic reactions i was prescribed with celestamine.

Please see a specialist in Coeliac Disease. Sometimes a simple blood test will bring a negative result. These negatives are known as a false negative. You can be a Positive or False Negative with Coeliac. A specialist will be able to explain this better to you. I had a simple blood test for Coeliac disease and it showed as a Negative. I had the further tests as nominated by a specialist in Coelaic disease - and bang there you have it. I had a False Negaitve. Not only am I Coeliac but have the rare gene associated with Coeliac Disease.
Also, if you do have Coeliac Disease, to start feeling human again you really cant just cut down on wheat/gluten - you have to rid your intake of wheat oats barley malt/gluten COMPLETELY and ENTIRELY. A little bit of gluten in any form will send you right back to where you came from if you know what I mean... Also the damage it is doing to the lining of the bowel is another story... Best leave it up to the Coealiac Specialst to explain...
