If you are having some good days and some bad days it leads me to believe there is a trigger in the food you are eating that you are missing? How sure are you that you've cut out all of the foods that trigger acid reflux? Have you tried keeping a food diary? That may allow you to find an odd trigger not usually associated with reflux (for my mother it was Calcium supplements of all things!).
On a related note, I found the wedge pillows hurt my back and instead propped up the head of my bed 7". since you noted living alone this may be a better long term strategy.
