Default Natural acid reflux cures? - 09-03-2008, 11:49 PM

I'm looking for drug-free, surgery-free solutions for acid reflux. I've had it for awhile now, and i refuse to have to become dependent on drugs for a solution, and i can't afford to pay for surgery (or drugs for that matter ) for a cure. I've heard Apple Cider Vinegar ( which is amazing, but it's an acid........) and baking soda ( which seems a bit more realistic ). Has anyone had any luck with natural solutions???

I know diet and sleeping with the upper body elevated. The change in sleeping habits don't work, and the diet just barely works. I'm looking for more reliable solutions that work better. I've just been using antacids, which work well, but only for an hour or two.

Thanks in advance

Great article that explains how digestion works. Excerpt >>>

"The bottom line here is that most people are very confused about the role stomach acid plays in health. Most people:

Think they have too much, when in fact they have too little.
Treat the symptom and suppress stomach acid production, ultimately leading to long-term health problems.
Ultimately lose the capacity to produce sufficient stomach acid as a result of dietary abuse and continual use of medications to suppress the body's ability to produce it.

Don't get into that trap.

Use digestive enzymes with all your meals.
Drink aloe Vera juice.
Use pro biotic supplements with confidence.
Use photolytic enzyme supplements with confidence.
And, if needed, use apple cider vinegar or Bettine hydrochloride supplements to make up for stomach acid insufficiency."

I agree with red angel, proper diet is the main answer. Say goodbye to all the yummy stuff. At the same time you're condition could be more severe than just heart burns. I started on antacids many moons ago and after a while they did nothing. Active ingredients in antacids are usually imperialLer rinitidine which can work for a while but I had to upgrade to rebraprazole which is usually prescribed. Not sure if they sell it over the counter. Mylanta was also a godsend to my relief back in the day. Don't get any imitations. Something about that liquid that works instant relief. If you take too much of ANY of these meds you're gonna make your life hell. I've been diagnosed with GERD. This disorder makes heartburns feel like a heartattack. There are medicines that work really good for that condition such as the rebraprazole (aciphex) I've actually been able to eat chili beans and drink beer with that treatment. Eventually as years pass, it stops working as your condition worsens. Sometimes there is no decision not to see a doctor especially when you're puking up bile and acid out of your nose. Not a condition to ignore. It'll also eat at your teeth and esophogus. Anyhow hope that helps. Look up GERD on the internet. I've also heard of foods you can eat to stop heartburns which I can't remember right offhand. I believe one of those foods is macaroni and cheese. Milk is not a good remedy. neither is laying down. Good luck.

It's called Prilosec OTC?. If you buy in bulk, it's about forty cents per tablet. And unlike all the piddly little ditch plants, it actually WORKS.

Wheatgrass juice or tea may help. Wheatgrass is highly alkaline.
